This bundle is perfect for anyone new to the science of reading or for anyone who wants to deepen their understanding of how skilled reading develops. We begin first by building knowledge about major research findings in the Foundations of the Science of Reading knowledge block. During this session, participants learn the relationship between word recognition and reading comprehension. Attendees also learn the major contributing factors that lead to skilled word recognition: phonological awareness and phonic knowledge.

These two critical aspects of skilled word recognition are explored further in the next two blocks in this bundle. In the Phonemic Awareness: What, Why, and How? knowledge block, participants learn how to administer and interpret a phonological awareness diagnostic assessment. Similarly, in the Phonic Knowledge: What, Why, and How? knowledge block, participants learn how to give and analyze a phonic knowledge diagnostic assessment. 

TRL 6-Step Lesson Plan for Decoding, Spelling, and Fluency knowledge block is the culmination of the previous three knowledge blocks. During this session, participants learn how to use the diagnostic assessments discussed in the previous two knowledge blocks to create 6-Step lessons. These lessons are designed to target specific phonemic and phonic skills that are necessary for efficient decoding, spelling and fluency. Participants will receive a variety of practical resources for planning and implementing these lessons.
