The Reading Comprehension Blueprint: Wrap-up Q&A with author Nancy Hennessy

Join The Reading League North Carolina and International Dyslexia Association North Carolina Branch as we read and discuss The Reading Comprehension Blueprint. This summer book study will begin with a kickoff session with Nancy Hennessy, author of the book and a North Carolina resident! Then, participants will have the opportunity to join virtual book study with breakout room facilitators throughout the summer to build community around this shared text. Finally, we will end our book study with Nancy Hennessy in a Q/A format about implementation.

Doing Away with the Instructional Level

Join The Reading League New York as they host Dr. Timothy Shanahan on Monday, September 16th at 4:00pm EST.  Dr. Shanahan will review the conceptional wisdom around students' instructional levels and introduce a very different conception of reading instruction that will encourage teachers to teach with grade level text.

Bethany Lutheran Literacy Clinic: A spotlight on a science of reading based teacher preparation program in Minnesota

Join The Reading League Minnesota as they host Dr. Carrie Pfeifer who will talk about Bethany's Literacy Clinic.  The free clinic for Mankato area students who are in need of structured literacy instruction is producing wonderful results not only for the young learners who are improving their reading skills, but also for Bethany students who are gaining real-world teaching experience.

Book Study: Literacy Foundations for English Learners: A Comprehensive Guide to Evidence-Based Instruction by Dr. Elsa Cárdenas-Hagan

The Writing Rope: A Framework for Evidence-Based Writing Instruction” with Joan Sedita

This free webinar is an overview of The Writing Rope model for writing instruction (Sedita, 2019) that represents multiple components of writing as strands in a rope. An explanation with references to research findings will be provided for the five strands: 1) Critical Thinking (generating ideas and information, stages of the writing process), 2) Syntax (syntactic awareness, sentence elaboration, punctuation), 3) Text Structure (narrative, informational, opinion; paragraph structure; patterns of organization, 4) Writing Craft (awareness of task, audience, purpose; word choice; literary devices, 5) Transcription (spelling and handwriting fluency). Related instructional suggestions are included. This webinar will be recorded and posted to the HELP website following the event. No continuing education certificates will be issued.

Join chapter leaders from across the country for The Reading League national conference.  This year's conference is being held at the Charlotte Convention Center in Charlotte, North Carolina.  Chapter leadership retreat begins at 8:30am on October 15th.
