Summer Book Study: Effective Universal Instruction Book Study

The Reading League chapter network is excited to bring you a unique learning opportunity this summer! Join chapters nationwide for a self-guided book study on Effective Universal Instruction by Drs. Gibbons, Brown, and Niebling. WSave your questions and insights as you read because we'll wrap up this summer of learning with another live Zoom session with authors Dr. Kimberly Gibbons and Dr. Sarah Brown on Mon, July 29 at 7pm ET / 4pm PT.

All you need to do is register once for the book study, and we'll send you the Zoom links and weekly resources to make this an impactful learning opportunity. As a bonus, at the end of the book study, you'll also receive a professional development guide that you can use to bring all of this knowledge back to your school teams! We hope you'll learn more about this action-oriented approach to improving Tier 1 with us this summer.

Join The Reading League New York for a full day of in-person learning at the Summer Literacy Symposium: Bringing the Science of Reading into the Classroom on August 14, 2024  at The Churchill School in New York City.  Dr. Linnea Ehri will deliver a keynote session on How Beginners Learn to Read and Spell Words: Phases of Development and Orthographic Mapping.  A variety of additional sessions related to evidence based reading instruction will be offered. The Role of Oral Language in Literacy with Dr. Nell Thompson

Join The Reading League Wisconsin virtually on August 28th at 6:30pm to learn evidence-aligned strategies for building oral language.  Dr. Nell Thompson will discuss the importance of oral language within literacy instruction. 

The Reading Comprehension Blueprint: Wrap-up Q&A with author Nancy Hennessy

Join The Reading League North Carolina and International Dyslexia Association North Carolina Branch as we read and discuss The Reading Comprehension Blueprint. This summer book study will begin with a kickoff session with Nancy Hennessy, author of the book and a North Carolina resident! Then, participants will have the opportunity to join virtual book study with breakout room facilitators throughout the summer to build community around this shared text. Finally, we will end our book study with Nancy Hennessy in a Q/A format about implementation.

Doing Away with the Instructional Level

Join The Reading League New York as they host Dr. Timothy Shanahan on Monday, September 16th at 4:00pm EST.  Dr. Shanahan will review the conceptional wisdom around students' instructional levels and introduce a very different conception of reading instruction that will encourage teachers to teach with grade level text. 

Project ARISE

Join The Reading League California as they host Project ARISE.  During this event, we will 1) hear from the folks at Project ARISE who will share an overview of their FREE series of self-paced online courses on literacy instruction and 2) meet in regional breakout rooms to discuss the start of the school year. 

Multilingual Learners and the Science of Reading with Dr. Gabi Bell Jiménez

This presentation will delve into the complex intersection of multilingual learners and science of reading. We will debunk common myths and misconceptions, providing evidence-based insights into effective teaching practices that support the literacy development of multilingual students. By understanding the unique challenges and strengths of these learners, educators can create inclusive and supportive learning environments that foster their academic success.
